Angela Merkel

The German Board of Immigration Declared last Tuesday that Germany will no longer return refugees to the first country they arrived to in the European Union according to the Dublin Treaty, which led to a wave of love and appreciation campaigns across social media sites.

Syrian activists have, through articles and poems, expressed their love and appreciation for German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

An activist wrote: “Merkel deserves all the love and appreciation and I hope to meet her one day.”

Another wrote “we will tell our children about the brave position taken by Germany, and the great help and assistance we received from the European Union countries, while we were abandoned by our neighboring Islamic countries despite their proximity to Syria. We preferred to risk our lives through the difficult and risky routes, because we are certain of the good treatment in Europe”.

According to expert estimates, Germany has already received over 44000 Syrian refugees in the first half of this year, and it will probably receive more than 800000 refugees by the end of the year.
