Ystad district Court in southern Sweden sentenced two alleged diplomats to serve six months in jail on charges of tax evasion and the use of false documents, for trying to smuggle large quantities of cigarettes across Ystad port back in June this year.

The two smugglers claimed they were diplomats from the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, (Read about them in Wikipedia).

They came with ferry from Poland to Ystad and were driving a large white car, they presented diplomatic passports, but customs officials at the port were suspicious and asked to search the car, but the two smugglers claimed that they had diplomatic immunity and the car had diplomatic plates and can not be inspected.

The customs officials contacted the Swedish State Department, which reported that their claim was false!

The car was examined by X-rays and turned out to have a double-roof and a double-floor, customs discovered 300000 cigarette hidden inside, and the two men were arrested and brought to trial.
