Swedish Foreign Minister offers condolences over the death of 717 pilgrims in Mina

The Swedish Foreign Minister, Margot Wallström, tweeted on her Twitter account today and expressed her shock and sorrow over the death of hundreds of pilgrims in Mina stampede in the first day of Eid al-Adha.

The stampede occurred Thursday morning during the ritual known as “stoning the devil” in the tent city of Mina, about two miles from Mecca, Islam’s holiest city.

The death toll has reached (717), whereas (863) were injured and were taken to hospitals for treatment
Saudi Press Agency reported that the official spokesman of the Directorate General of Civil Defense said that “at around 9 o’clock of Thursday morning and during the pilgrims walk towards the Jamarat facility to throw “Jamrat al Aqabah”, a stampede occurred at street number (204) at its intersection with street number (223) in Mina, resulting in the death of (717), and (863) were injured and were taken to hospitals for treatment.”
