The Swedish justice and migration minister, Morgan Johansson, rejected the Conservative Party’s “Moderaterna” proposal presented by it’s leader Anna Kinberg Batra, which called for enforcing border control and implementing deportation procedures directly at the border, as a solution to the refugee crisis.

Kinberg Batra also suggested reducing Sweden’s EU fee since Sweden receives the largest number of Refugees.

Johansson said in a statement today, after a conference with the European Migration Ministers in Brussels, that the Conservative Party’s proposal contradicts the  European Union Conventions and the Schengen Agreement, because closing the border with Denmark will inevitably lead to the closure of Denmark to its border with Germany, and Germany with Austria, and Austria with Hungary, which will increase the number of refugees in the Balkans, which is already suffering from instability because of the refugee crisis, and this will lead to bigger problems.

As for reducing Sweden’s EU fee, it can not be discussed now, Johansson said, because the budget is determined for seven years after lengthy discussions and conflicts with the twenty-seven Member States, and the current budget has already been set, and it covers the period 2014 – 2020, so the Conservative’s proposal is unrealistic.

But Johansson said that Sweden made a request to the European Union to contribute to cover some of the costs incurred by Sweden because of the refugee crisis, and this is a realistic and a reasonable request.
