The Swedish Meteorological Agency “SMHI” warned today of a Siberian cold weather that would cover most of Sweden as of tonight and will continue even after the end of this year.

Sources at SMHI said the storm “Staffan” will hit Sweden from the east causing a significant drop in temperatures and heavy snow falling on most parts of Sweden, and in particular on the provinces of “Götaland”, “Värmlands län”, “Örebro län”, “Södermanlands län” and “Stockholms län”, where snow rate will rise to about 15 centimeters in these areas.

SMHI warns that the significant drop in temperatures will lead to the formation of ice on the roads that will become very slippery, which may cause traffic accidents, especially with people rushing to return home after spending Christmas with their relatives and friends.

There has already been more than 20 traffic accident recorded today in “Östergötlands län” alone, many of the injured were transferred to hospital for treatment.

Therefore we call on all drivers to drive carefully so they can get to their homes safely, and it is better to stay inside where it’s warm and safe.
